The United Way of Carlisle and Cumberland County formed its first Student Leadership Council in 2010. In the past two years an average of 26 students each year in grades 7 through 12 volunteered to serve on the Student Leadership Council.
The Student Leadership Council serves as a link between the communities that United Way represents and the youth of our community. The students take part in activities related to Education, Income, Health and Safety Net. The 2012-2013 program has been revised including a “Get Moving Initiative”, events focused on raising money and awareness for local programs that deal with hunger, the Gifts that Give program for homeless and very low income children, the annual M & T Bank Central PA Glee Competition plus activities that the students choose on a monthly basis geared towards Give, Advocate and Volunteer. Middle School students have an option of meeting on a separate Student Leadership Council day and/or joining in with the Senior High Students at the regular Student Leadership Council Day each month. Activities will be mostly the same for both groups and they will be working on them together.
